Life's Limitations

Life's Limitations

Life's only limitations are the ones you accept.
If you say you can't, you won't.  If you say you can.
You will.  It's really that simple.
the secret is to stop looking at limitations as
roadblocks, instead, see all the opportunities life
offers.  embrace them with the belief that you deserve
them just as much as anybody.  the truth is, you do.

Never be afraid to jump into new experiences. the
potential rewards they offer you is unlimited; you just
need to be willing to let them into your life.

Remember that a closed door is merely a door that
hasn't been opened-break down the barriers and
don't be afraid to barge right through with confidence.
You can do it!

19th Century Immigrants

Poignant black and white pictures show the brutal hardships endured by immigrant families in 19th century New York

  • City of sweat shops, shanty towns and slums is an unrecognisable New York, captured, in black and white
  • Shots provide a window into the squalor, deprivation and poverty of a bygone age

By Daily Mail Reporter

They may have headed to the 'Land of the Free' for a better life, but a set of poignant black and white pictures illustrate the brutal hardships endured by immigrant families in 19th century New York.

The images captured by Jacob A. Riis provide a window into the squalor, deprivation and poverty of a bygone age.

The stark photos of sweat shops, shanty towns and slums provide an image of an unrecognisable city.

Shades of the Wild West: In an astonishingly atmospheric image taken in 1887, a group of men loiter in an alley known as 'Bandit's Roost' off Mulberry Street

Charity: A group of men and young boys stand outside the front entrance of the Children's Aid Society's central office, at 24 St. Mark's Place, circa 1895. The children hold satchels with their belongings. They children were preparing to travel west, subsidized by Mrs John Jacob Astor

Cold night: Three young street children huddle together over a grate for warmth in an alleyway off Mulberry Street, Manhattan

For many immigrants the new life was a tough one- some of the streets where they had made their home were notorious for violent crime.

Riis took advantage of the newly-invented flash photography to document the city's dark side in these incredible pictures of slum life among the immigrant underclass.

In one heart-wrenching picture three small barefoot children huddle together for warmth over a grating. Others show street children huddling close together for warmth, or working the streets as shoeshines and beggars.

During the rime reporter and reformer's late-night visits to the slums, the new medium of flash startled people but managed to capture the chaos of poverty as it had never before been seen in photographs.

Newly arrived immigrants slept 12 to a room, while street children roamed the alleys and tenement blocks of a Third World downtown Manhattan.

Harsh conditions: A young girl, holding a baby, sits in a doorway next to a garbage can. Riis was a great reformer and his work helped to draw attention to the plight of the deprived

Slumdogs: The sight of Italian immigrant families in New York on Jersey Street, living in shacks could be a scene from the developing world today

Shanty town: A dilapidated wooden shack sits in an empty lot surrounded by tenement buildings in 1896

Living on the edge: View of a back-lot house on Bleecker Street between Mercer and Greene Streets, almost toppling into an excavation site

Unfettered squalor: An Italian immigrant smokes a pipe in his makeshift home under the Rivington Street Dump

Dangerous life: A man and a young girl peer into the courtyard of a tenement complex in 'Bottle Alley,' 1901. The photograph was used as evidence in a murder case. An 'X' is marked on the side of a staircase (right) to indicate the location where the murderer fired shots

As these images show, there were moments of light relief. Riis also captured the city's poorest at leisure - playing ball, breaking the incessant gloom with a few tunes on the fiddle or splashing about in the bathhouse on the Hudson River.

At times Riis also documents the other side of New York - the white picket fences, the prim schoolgirls.

Riis's celebrated 1890 work of early photojournalism, How the Other Half Lives, brought to public attention the desperate lives of urban immigrants and created a place for him in photographic history, according to The New York Times.

A Danish immigrant who became a police reporter, Riis was an evangelical, a conservative, and a reformer who wanted to improve conditions in the congested slums.

He arrived in the U.S. in 1870, having left Denmark as a carpenter's apprentice, and began life in New York as a casual worker, later working as a crime reporter for The New York Tribune.

Makeshift home: A man sorts through trash under the 47th Street dump where he has made his home in around 1890

Hard labour: In a picture taken in 1890 a Bohemian family of four roll cigars at home in their tenement. Working from six in the morning till nine at night, they earn $3.75 for a thousand cigars, and between them could turn out three thousand cigars a week

Pictures that inspire a trip to Madagascar

It is the largest island in Africa (and one of the largest in the world). Separated from the mainland thousands of years ago, today could be summarized as an ark that retains many unique species: lemurs and baobabs are probably two of the icons of this "lost world", but there are many more. For example, there are about 373 species of frogs found on the island, 99% of which are endemic. Madagascar has seven ecoregions ranging from mangrove forest, shrubland, and forest. But if something will be recorded in this selection of 65 images of the country, will be especially its biodiversity, its "strange creatures" in a gallery of bizarre wildlife.

Husaini memberitahu, kawasan calet berkenaan mula diusahakannya kira-kira tiga tahun lalu.

Kholid).

How to Speed up Android Performance

Actually not too difficult to accelerate performance in the play-store android because it has a range of applications that we can use to boost Performance android phone or tablet. Have high-tech gadgets like android is very pleasant indeed. a variety of applications can us plug as we like. But after a long period of usage android users will definitely feel the device is slower.

There is a more powerful way to boost the android device is by root. But this way is quite risky, therefore better to use in ways that are simple and safe to accelerate the performance of our android. Here there is some way to speed up the performance of android.

How to Speed up Android Performance :

  1. Reduce the number of Widget. Widget is an element or part of the graphical interface or GUI in the form of text boxes, buttons, and so on provided information or settings that can be reduced or added by the user. If you use the widget presents a continuously updated information at any time, it will lead to additional processes that suck up memory so the impact on the performance slowdown. For that, it helps you remove some of the widgets that are rarely used.
  2. Turn off Auto Update Apps. Enable the automatic update feature contained in the application settings menu Play Store, it can make your application without having to check constantly updated manually. However these features will certainly weigh on the performance of the phone, especially when all of a sudden your phone to download and install an application while you are running other applications that consume a lot of memory
  3. Turn off Live Wallpaper. Although Live Wallpaper on your mobile phone load display look more attractive but it can slow down the performance of your phone because to make the animation continue to run your phone would be forced to continue to work by turning off Live Wallpaper you can create a moving scroll on the desktop phone to be lighter and smoother.
  4. Close applications running in the background. Did you know that by pressing the home button on the phone, the apps that are running will continue to run in the background. Meanwhile, if you press the back button when the application is running, it will automatically close and shut down the application. Therefore, from now on if you want to open another application do not forget to close running applications. By pressing the back button or turn it off with the help of task killer which can be downloaded for free from the Play Store.
  5. Auto Brightness. Most android phones have been equipped with an ambient light sensor which will check the condition of light around the phone and adjust the screen brightness emitted. However, in addition to wasting energy, active autobrightness also weighed on the performance of mobile.
  6. Move Applications To Micro SD. Moved apps to SD feature is a feature that lets you move the application installation ffor from internal memory to the micro SD card that you pinned. By moving the application installation files to the external memory, the internal memory storage space is becoming increasingly relieved. With an internal memory space will be more relieved, then the performance of the mobile phone became increasingly mild and smoothly.
  7. Autorotate. With autorotate feature, you will change the screen orientation automatically follow the position of the phone in your hand. However, in some cases, the automatic rotation can cause your phone is having lag or pauses that disrupt. Therefore you can turn off autorotate this by going to settings> display and uncheck the box next to the "autorotate screen".
  8. Factory Reset. If you have done the above steps but the results are less satisfactory, reset the device could be a last resort. This is because there are some applications in Android that runs automatically in the background when you first turn on the phone. This does not include the application also displays pop-up ads that besides suck memory usage also uses your internet data
Such a simple way speed up the performance of your android phone. hopefully useful.
